Areas of Expertise

Play Therapy

Play is the natural language of children. When provided a safe environment, play therapy builds on the natural way that children learn about themselves and their relationships in the world around them. Through play therapy, children learn to communicate with others, express feelings, modify behavior, develop problem-solving skills, and learn a variety of ways of relating to others. Play provides a safe psychological distance from their problems and allows expression of thoughts and feelings appropriate to their development.

“You can learn more about a person in one hour of play than in a year of conversation.” – Plato

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy is an evidence-based approach that aims at addressing the needs of children and adolescents with post traumatic stress disorder and other difficulties related to traumatic life events. The goal of TF-CBT is to provide psychoeducation to both the child and the caregivers and help them to identify and cope with emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Research has shown TF-CBT to be effective in treating childhood PTSD and with children who have experienced traumatic events.
